Language: The True Tale of the Great Gatsby Essay -- The Great Gatsby

Language The True Tale of the Great GatsbyThe experience age was a time of glamour, sparkle, parties, music, the extreme point rich, the extreme poor, and the exultation of lawlessness F. Scoot Fitzgerald was no exception. Fitzgerald was enamored by the deportment of money, status, and beautiful people on a hopeless spiral into ego destruction. The moral decadence of America became a prevailing theme in the works of Fitzgerald, taking birth fully within The Great Gatsby. This novel is brought to life by narrator Nick Carraway who is a moral Midwestern man, infatuated, much as Fitzgerald was, by the parties and pizzazz of the east. Gatsby is a mysterious rich man, taken by love, but caught up in the deviant nature of the days. The morals of the entire cast in this ballet are as whimsical as the sheets of Jazz music that emanated from the musicians of the day. This constant change of character was always more eloquently explained by the language Fitzgerald apply, than the act ual plot of the story. The language that Fitzgerald used within te story, was more indicative to the actual story than the plot itself. While the character analysis of many of the characters may seem incomplete, by simply analyzing the words that were used to describe the characters and their surroundings, one can derive an in-depth hypothesis about each. One can first see this use of language by looking at the point of view that the characters are seen in. Nick, the narrator, comes to Long Island, completely drawn by riches. Without even realizing it, Nick equates money to beauty and happiness. Fitzgeralds use of language through with(predicate) Nick, always describes daisy as entrancing, beautiful, charming, tempting, sumptuous, and many other sexual, beautiful words ... ...arn more about the character themselves. It is this that makes Fitzgerald the big(p) author of the Jazz age and The Great Gatsby the great book of this age. Many people have argued that if it werent for jazz music, the culture of that age would not have been born. It is not the plot that is the primary bearer of symbolisation and themes within The Great GatsbyI, rather it was the language. The language, that like jazz, told a whole story in a few scales. Jazz was the soul of the culture, it was their feelings and emotions on scales and scores. The case is the similar with language of The Great Gatsby. The language is the soul of the novel, the lungs through which the theme breathes its life.Works CitedF. Scott Fitzgerald. The Great Gatsby. Romeo and Juliet - Friar Laurence Essay -- English Literature Essays

Romeo and Juliet - friar LaurenceTo what extent is Friar Laurence responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? The Friar is answerable for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, but only to some degree. Often, because of his involvement in the lives of the lovers, Friar Laurence ignore be seen as more responsible for their deaths than he actually is, although in the last scene the Friar is partially responsible for the death of Juliet. However his business is mild compared to the accountability of other influences in the lovers lives, including friends, parents and the idea of fate or fortune. Even Romeo and Juliet themselves can be blamed to some extent for the tragedy. Although it often appears that the Friar is responsible for events leading to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, in reality it is usually other influences that are accountable. For instance, the Friars plan (giving Juliet the sleeping potion to evade the wedding to Paris, then spiriting her to Mantua until Romeo could in terpret to Verona) was not flawed in itself. Unfortunately however, Balthazar, seeing Juliets funeral, hastened to tell Romeo that he saw her laid low in her kindreds vault, (5, 1, 20). It was this training that made him, and later Juliet, commit suicide. Again, while marrying Romeo and Juliet may seem like an irresponsible action, it did not contribute to the lovers deaths. Their first meeting, based on chance, and their separation, as a result of Romeos banishment, played a...

The Last of the Mohicans

Is racism a choice or not? The novel The Last of the Mohicans, by pile Fenimore Cooper, did provide evidences of racism as practice not only by Americans but also by otherwise cultures which suggests a strong indication on the possible roots of racism. This paper therefore attempts to dramatize this new found reality that may not be known or accepted by many. The three part thesis of the paper is stated in the following propositions (1) the racism has its roots in nature and it must be having been part of clement nature. (2) That racism has been practiced due to natives wanting to preserve their cultures, and (3) that racism is strongly felt in sexual urge mix.Since the Native Americans are forced to live with their colonizers, refusal to get married with the European colonizers must have been a natural thing to do. Hence what is ever is happening as racism in the United States must be traced back to this great of American history. To dwell therefore on the belief that discrimin ation is a well-planned reaction to other cultures may seem to find bevy support as it not natural to hate or discriminate other state. There must be a prior experience in the past that has entered the subconscious level. Not surprisingly therefore whizz could read in the American literature stories and novels that my have the colors or some racial problem. But the racial reactions was not chosen voluntarily as intended reaction but a subconscious reaction become something hurtful that has happened in the past. The issue of apparently prohibited a sexual racial mixture between cultures is depicted in the novel The Last of the Mohicans by Fenimore Coopers. The word of honor miscegenation, which the mown word for the sexual racial mixture has taken its meaning from two parts miscere and genus is apparently used in the at the end of the nineteenth century, and the word was actually found mainly in the analysis of previous literary works. In appreciating therefore the reality to a pr ofound and realistic portrayal of gender and racial dealing between Native Americans and exsanguinous the great unwashed in the period of Indian and French Wars in his novel, author Cooper made an launching of his own imaging of early native Americans taking the position that miscegenation should be prohibited. It may be argued that the existing political and societal issues are then influenced by the attitude of white people towards Native Americans in the past. To be specific about it one may check that the at the end of the ordinal century there were indeed some American states to have passed specific laws that were aimed at prohibiting sexual racial mixture and this may inferred to have deprived people of different races, with the exception of the white population but not without the undeniable repercussion as far as the American political rights particularly misdemeanor to the principles of equation. On taking the contrary view miscegenation may lessen the differences bet ween two races but people then or may fifty-fifty this could aggravate these distinctions because people would be detached and removed from their customary background and by forbidding them from integration into the new environment. This could observed by the fact Americas vision as seen by some is large measure of what the countrys have projected as a model about a future-realizable condition, kind of of using the past to look the situation using reason. With this seeming mismatch, America may have been involved in complex racial tensions and conflicts which appeared to be enjoin Native Americans. This same reason was also evident in Coopers rejection of sexual mixture in the book.In his portrayal of gender relations and miscegenation in the novels, Cooper may be opening the minds of those who know the real background or origin of racism as a social phenomenon. Not many people will disagree that the US the country that brought a into living together as community of people from d ifferent races if one will observe that such may have even started from the period of colonization. Since colonization may only be a desire to influence other cultures. But as soon as the process of interaction was started it, history has recorded about colonizers making constant attempts to destroy beliefs of Native Americans two from the ethnical and religious aspects. The most immediate reaction however was for the indigenous population with America to want preservation of their cultural identity which normally is conflicting to the principles of white people. It is proper at this point to produce evidence from the text why Cooper has shown rejection of sexual mixture between races. In his narration, Fenimore Cooper has described the people or character in the novel with mixed and unmixed blood. One of the characters in the novel is Hawkeye, who despite the fact of being culturally connected with both white people and Indians, he is portrayed by author as a person without a cross 1 The author may have the same treatment of Alice Munro who is described as surprisingly fair2.For another character by the name of Chingachgook, the author has presented as an unmixed Mohican. Cooper has created characters be to the other race like Cora, the elder sister of Alice, who may be described to of mixed race, who played the role of protecting even at the comprise of her own life. Cora was indeed presented as coming from that unfortunate class who are so basely enslaved to administer to the wants of a luxurious people3 from the race of air jacket Indians, who cannot marry a person from the South. It may be concluded then that Cooper did portrayed a story of racism in the US date back to period of colonization as the book revealed women characters being prohibited to many from other race and therefore an indication of lack of freedom and equality when it comes to issues of choosing their marital partners. Cooper portrayed a judgment for women who ignored racial prejudice s and assigned their societal-dictated roles, by either being rejected by society or having to die as they are opposing to sexual mixture. In the novel, one could conclude in their minds how the author Cooper has chosen to exterminate ignorer of racial prejudices such Cora and Magua if only to prevent an incompatible marriage.Work CitedCooper, J The Last of the Mohicans, St. Martins Press, New York, 19841 Cooper, 1984 p.4.2 Cooper, 1984 p.378 3 Cooper, 1984 p.310

Using potential power as a motive for being nationalistic was an option.Muslims wanted to copy European ways in order to have more power and achieve independence(Doc 4). Why were Witches women?

For over three centuries, early modern font atomic number 63 was largely dominated by witchcraft persecutions, the cuticle of which such atrocities had never been witnessed before. These persecutions arose from various significant instabilities of the times. Tens of thousands of executions were carried out, particularly within Central Europe and the vast majority of deaths were attributed to women. This is what was most remarkable about this halt the position that so many women were recognised as practitioners of witchcraft. I shall be closely following the reasons for such large-scale prosecutions within the early modern period. In particular, I shall be looking at the different sub-categories concerning reasons for such a rise in the nature of witch prosecutions. These categories will be broken up as follows the Churchs view on maleficia, whom the witches were, the effect company had on the arrival of witchcraft, literatures perspective, natural thought and freethinking, and th e confessions of witches. The Church was integral to the whole belief system within modern day Europe and was the main, driving component for social, economic and religious conformity. However, the Catholic Church as a unit had been threatened through The Reformation and theological perceptions and ideas were changing. Peoples interpretations and prior beliefs were now being challenged, criticised and there was now total religious uncertainty and unbalance within society. This consequently led to the powerful Counter Reformation in which the Catholic Church began an attempt to not only counter the Protestant Reformation, but in any case to eliminate corruption, educate clergy and inspire faith in the common battalion- (B. P. Levack, 1995).The crew of these two ecclesiastical revolutions induced the inevitable religious disorder, which in turn would spur the rise and development of to a greater extent numerous and more extreme witch-hunts. In addition, these two reformed religions placed a renewed importance upon individual morals. This issued many with the desire to place the burden of sins upon someone else, and in effect to modernise a scapegoat- (B. P. Levack, 1995). Throughout history, such scapegoats have generally been the rejects of society, the loners, the sick, and the poor. This age was no different and in their search for a dupe, someone to hold obligated, they found the witches. This period of great religious, social and economic transformation combined with the prevalence of epidemics and natural disasters now had a target on whom to lay all the charge upon a physical embodiment of the corruptive that had been endured. Furthermore, as well as Martin Luther and Jean Calvin highlighting and condoning the burning of witches as whores of Satan, the Church as a whole was responsible for accepting witchcraft as part of society, essentially forming the moral backing needed for such large-scale atrocities. So then, in 1485 the Catholic inquisition administration published Malleus Maleficarum. This was essentially a book, confirming women as those responsible for witchcraft, as those capable of evil and come-on. Women are by nature instruments of Satan they are by nature carnal, a structural defect rooted in the original creation The bible also condemned witchcraft, or so people thought. Within hegira 2218 it orders, Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.It is then this meltture of Church and theological backing that gave the people of Europe the authority to act upon the witches within society, and to destroy anyone suspected of witchcraft. It is interesting to note then that this period of witch-hunting was most intense within Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and Scotland, where the countries were religiously heterogeneous- (G. Geis, 1997), comprising a mix of numerous Protestant and Catholic believers. Moreover, the witch-hunts themselves have long been seen as part of a war against women, conducted overwhelmingly by men a nd particularly, by those in authority.Infact, Deborah Willis notes that more polemical feminist accounts are likely to portray the witch as a heroic protofeminist resisting patriarchal oppression and a wholly innocent victim of a male-authored reign of terror designed to keep women in their place. (D. Willis, 1995, in web page). Holistically speaking, the Churchs contribution to witchcraft headaches and prosecutions led to the general belief within society that demons sprightlyly interfered upon the Earth and that witches were hugely prevalent concerning the interactions with and/or the dealings with such forces upon the Earth. In general, there was a greatly intensified and invigorated belief in the supernatural. For those who did not believe in such ideas, it still remained a plausible and effective tool for shifting the blame onto the women within society. It is now important to fully recognise whom these witches were and to discern the types of women victimised for such cri mes against humanity. In general, it was the women from the lower sections of society who were seen as those who had the probability to commit harmful acts. Those who were widows and so were therefore able to turn back things and to hide within the cloak of darkness to practice their magic and to tack with their familiars and even with the Devil himself, were often susceptible to prosecutions. In addition, these women were seen as vessels of nature and much walking(prenominal) to the environment and conditions of nature than men, and so more able to dominate the elements. The number of unmarried women was also increasing and this was another ca physical exercise for fear within society. These women were considered a burden on society. The other group vulnerable to witchcraft accusations were midwives. star of the ostensible practices of witches was the execution and cannibalism of infants, especially those who had not yet been baptised into the Christian faith. Therefore, it is o f no surprise that this particular group was especially focused upon in terms of prosecutions. It was essentially a way for grieving families to be able to lay blame upon the midwife for the death of their child, particularly within times of increasing infant mortality and occasional infanticide. The general view however was that witches were often cited as those outsiders of society, reliant upon community relief and benefits, draining the land of its wealth. Additionally, women were often cited with sorcery because of their traditional roles as cooks, nurses, midwives and keepers of the home. Witches were often associated as those who were in league with the Devil and as those who would meet at Sabbats to create spells, curses, practice killings and take part in lewd internal acts with one another and with Satan himself.Single women were particularly focused upon for prosecutions concerning sexual abominations, as they were seen as more easily seductable and by far more sexual by nature. Indeed, the fact that the Devil was depicted as being the real form of a man highly extenuated the belief that women did take part in such acts. Society also saw women as being weaker in e rattling sense of the word. They did not have the political power or physical capabilities to defend themselves. Therefore, they were thought to use magic to defend themselves and additionally benefit pacts with the Devil to achieve various things against their enemies. However, the great witch hunts of the medieval period were long depicted as a war against women, conducted mainly by men, especially those in central authority (Willis, Malevolent Nurture, p. 12). The reason for this was ostensibly that men wanted to keep women in their rightful place within society, largely pacified and subdued. This came with the great fear of feminist accounts, which started to take place within this period. The subject of women projected as witches was widely held in belief within topical anesthetic co mmunities and often formed the decision making factor in disputes within local communities. So if a particular person has had a bad harvest, or their child has dies in the night, the climate of proterozoic Modern Europe was conducive to such accusations and provided the ammunition with which to prosecute. The times of the period were one of extreme economic turbulence and poverty. Across Western Europe in particular, the gulf between the rich and poor was consistently growing and there was a general decline also in the living standards of much of Europe. These conditions may however have persuaded people to contemplate using magic to help themselves and to achieve monetary or land gains, but on the other hand, it also maintained that accusations would be at a new high. Below is a table showing the relevance of monetary/land/food disputes within local communities and the effect being a widow within society would have concerning such disputes and jealousies in Essex, 1564-89 Kinship Relationships Husband and Wife * 4 Unspecified Quarrels (2) sexual Jealousy (1) Broken Marriage Contract (1) Stepfather and Stepchild 1 Over Inheritance Grandmother and Grandchild 1 Obligation to collect woodTotal 6 neighborly Relationships * (Object of dispute) * Food/Drink * 12 Animals 4 Money * 8 Implements 4 Unspecified loans 3 Boundaries/Land * 4 Children 3 Total 48 The deviation shown in number between kinship quarrels and disputes within the community is substantial. It demonstrates the heightened debates and tension with local communities and supports the view that widows were particularly attacked within these times as defenceless, unimportant people of the community. Another crucial part of women being persecuted as witches, developed through another mind controlling and prevalent technique within this time period. This was the use of literature, so covering e trulything from the bible and Church readings to pamphlets and novels written within the time. It is not surpris ing that the Malleus maleficarum had such an influential effect upon the rise of women as victims of potty witch prosecutions. Shakespeare also wrote within this time period and included a wide range of texts, often shadowing events and topics within Europe at the time. One of the key texts he wrote was that of Macbeth, where Macbeth and his wife in stages murder various people in line to the succession of Kingship for their own gratuitous ends. The central factor towards their distort ideals and evil dealings was that of the witches within the moors. These of course were depicted purely as women, with similar characteristics to those generally seen as witches within this same period. The very fact that dame Macbeth had to effectively become a man and get rid of her female characteristics in order to succeed, parallels the social view of women within this time and further extenuates the likelihood of women as victims.Indeed, it is the prophecies of the witches that initiate the m urder, corruption, greed and lies that manifest with Macbeth. The famous line of is that a dagger I see before me spoken by that of Macbeth represents the conjuring of illusional magic, produced by the witches of the time. Furthermore, the witches and his wife are inextricably linked together, in that they both influence Macbeth, and so the social view of women being manipulative, a natural temptation (as referred to in the Malleus maleficarum), a necessary evil etc is evidently shown within the literature of the time. The Catholic Church concentrated circumstantialally upon the natural sin and evil within the individual and as mentioned previously, people saw the witches as scapegoats, a group to blame for their sinful nature. The bible in particular was another greatly recognised and taught book within society and the very story of creation within Genesis demonstrates the sinful, easily tempted and generally weak nature of women. Also, within revelation (the concluding chapter of the Bible), the sinful woman of Babylon he Great Prostitute, was also another indication of the weakness of women and showed this to be the case from the very beginning of creation to the very end. In general, the people of Europe saw the massacre of the witches as a religious war of enacting rightice on those directly against the will of God. One whim spread throughout literature was that of witches contacting and serving Diana, the Goddess of the Moon. Women were hence seen as the most likely persons to communicate with Diana as a league of women joined together. Some confessed to really riding with Diana and taking part in various activities, however they were later recognised to be delusional. Overall, the introduction of the printing press and the generally increasing availability of literature to the masses, allowed for more rapid transfers of elite beliefs in witchcraft and especially women as active participants. The trials of women within this period serve to reinforce and validate the beliefs communicate through popular literature. One of the most confusing and baffling aspects of the women as witches theme is that many actually confessed to charges against them. This of course did not help the assumption that women were witches and served to respectable heighten the prosecutions and fuel the killings. Many witches claimed that their experiences had been worthwhile and showed virtually no remorse whatsoever for their supposed actions. This was the case all over Europe and not just England, even though the killings were much more prevalent and torture much more extreme on the continent than in England. However, P. Levack described this fact as less surprising when various other considerations were taken into account.Such as the women often being brought up to believe that they were indeed instruments of Satan and that they were the only crack within Gods creation (P. B. Levack, 1995). This however was simply societys effort to instil such belief s so as to relieve the worry of female independence and to of course resume the scapegoat it had found within the period in question. It is particularly interesting to note that many women actually testified against others within the community. They made up 43 % of witnesses against other women. Briggs notices that women were active in building up reputations through gossip, deploying counter-magic and accusing suspects (Briggs, 1995). Women were completely surrounded by each sector of society and it was virtually impossible for them to escape penalization of some sort if they had first been accused of witchcraft. Ecclesiastically, the whole Church acknowledged the position of women as witches within society and this simply gave the general public the opportunity to lay the blame for all the famine, disease, deaths and religious intolerance within previous years. The elite simply kept maintaining this strongly held belief in witchcraft and moreover sustained the prosecutions and prov ided the literature and ethics with which to support these beliefs. What is key to this topic is that most prosecution cases actually refer directly to traditionally female aspects, such as the home, the kitchen, and the nursery and on culturally defined female tasks or occupations such as feeding (poisoning), child-rearing (infanticide), healing (harming), birth (death) (Christina Hole, date unknown).Furthermore, women within society were very much pacified throughout this time and this meant that they were easy targets for attack. These poor victims of attack simply existed within a delicate age of uncertainty, confusion and anger. Society believed in the population of witchcraft and in the exponents of maleficia, the women of the times. On a more local scale too, communities widely looked to the accusation of witchcraft as a means to a specific end, whether it concerned land disputes or money disputes etc. These were very testing times, times of extreme economic struggles and rel igious disputes. In conclusion, it is interesting to note that as standards of living vastly improved and religious irregularities disappeared, prosecutions decreased dramatically and people suddenly began to notice that most prosecutions were actually highly nonsensical and irrational. Society gradually came to accept that it had indeed made many mistakes.

“Pretty Little Liars” by Sara Shepard Essay

Freud believes that it is part of e rattlingones personality to search recreation through with(predicate) force-out it is part of the ID. However, the ego negotiates between the ID and superego, meaning the majority of bulk so-and-so regulate between the morals of society and their own pleasures. I retard with this, as does Sara Shepard, the author of Pretty Little Liars. I believe that people who seek pleasure through violence are ill minded, and have psychological issues, due to the fact that the ego should be able to tell the brain to follow the morals of society. A, a character from Pretty Little Liars, nobody can solve the mystery regarding who exactly A is, however they are ill-minded, and seek pleasure in harming others as a joke. Ill-minded people like this are evil. some people follow the morals of society, but still enjoy violence. How the person goes about enjoying it is what differs them from everyone else. For example, an individual could can enjoy watching crime shows, such as CSI, Criminal Minds, Law and Order and m all others. Even though they enjoy these shows it does not mean that they would go out and seek to hurt someone the look the criminals do to their victims in the show. In Pretty Little Liars, Aria, Hannah, Emily, and Spencer are all good people. They do not go seeking violence, they do not seek harm. This is the way most people in society are. These good people have a good ego. Meaning it is negotiating their wants to work with the morals of society.A very select few are ill-minded wishing simply harm upon others. A from Pretty Little Liars is one of these select few. She or he makes it their goal to upon the lives of Aria, Hannah, Emily and Spencer. For example, Aria gains an interest in a man during the summer little did she know he was her new English teacher. They keep it a secret between only them they were not going to let that tare their new love for each other apart. However, A, knows everything. They know how Arias dad (a teacher) had an affair on his wife geezerhood ago. Due to the fact that Aria is keeping her relationship a secret she receives a text message, signed A, saying, Aria,Maybe he fools with students all the time.A lot of teachers do. Just ask your dad A (Shepard, page 139). This quote shows how A knows everything. They know the girls past, and use it against them. A is a murderer, they killed Allison during the beginning of the novel, and Ian during the end. A did not remember to kill Ian but meant to kill Spencer. The girls have no understanding as to why they are As targets. They are good people, not intending any harm. This is not a normal person. Innocent people are killed every day because people are sick. They seek pleasure in watching the scathe of an innocent individual. It is not normal or moral, for people to be this evil.I can speak on a personal level. I do not seek pleasure through violence, I do enjoy crime shows, but does that make me a bad person? No. Although someone has enjoyed taking their pleasure out on me by violence, and those that do that to an innocent person are evil. I do not think that the people that look for pleasure in violence truly understand how they come upon a person. I can relate to the girls in Pretty Little Liars because they seek help, sometimes people will try and help you, other times its a hard concept for many to believe.Emily, Aria, Hannah and Spencer cannot trust anybody the same because of the horror and threats they are encountering that affect their daily lives. Just as I cannot do a lot of things that I use to do prior to my incident. Nothing is the same. People that seek violence do not realize what they are actually doing to other people because they only seek self-pleasure, they are ill-minded. on that point is always going to be a psychological battle between the ID and superego, however the egos ability to negotiate between the two is what will make or break an individual. There are many ill-minded people in our world, there is help. A is an evil person, just like many in our world seeking pleasure in selfish ways because they dont know any different. Their effects on people could be unfortunate. Not everyone is made evil, its a psychological illness. There is good in this world.Works CitedShepard, Sara. Pretty Little Loars. My mother surprised me with the Babar biddy, and then we cuddled up together and she read Babars stories to me until I fell asleep, lying across her. Its my strongest memory of her, even now not so much how she looked, but the low and warm sound of her vo folderol, and the softness of her belly as I lay against her and drifted off, her stroking my head. The sensation of my mother, and the feeling of cut and comfort from her.I miss her. Still do. Even now. Even right now. After my mother died I couldnt go anywhere without Babar. He was my friendship to her, my connection to that kip complicate and comfort I didnt pay back anymore. Being away from Babar meant being away from what I had left of her. I was five years old. This was my way of discussion my loss. It kept me from falling into myself, I think. Five is a bad age to lose your mother, like I said I think it could be a good age to lose yourself, if youre not careful.Shortly after my mothers funeral, my father and I left Phoenix, where I was born, and move to Covell, a space station orbiting in a higher place a planet called Omagh, where he did research. Occasionally his job had him leave Covell on business trips. When that happened I stayed wi th my friend Kay Greene and her parents. One time my father was leaving on a trip he was running late and forgot to pack Babar for me. When I opined this out (it didnt take long), I started to cry and panic. To placate me, and because he did lovemaking me, you know, he promised to bring me a Celeste doll when he returned from his trip. He asked me to be brave until then. I said I would, and he kissed me and told me to go play with Kay. I did. While he was away, we were attacked. It would be a very long time before I would see my father again. He remembered his promise, and brought me a Celeste. It was the first thing he did when I saw him.I still have her. But I dont have Babar. In time, I became an orphan. I was adopted by arse and Jane, who I call Dad and mammy, but not Father and Mother, because those I keep for Charles and Cheryl Boutin, my first parents. derriere and Jane understand this well enough. They dont mind that I make the distinction. Before we go to Huckleberry ne ar before Jane and I went to a mall in Phoenix City, the capital city of Phoenix. We were on our way to get ice cream when we passed a toy store I ran in to play hide-and-seek with Jane. This went smashingly until I went down an aisle with stuffed animals in it, and came face-to-face with Babar. not my Babar, of course. But one close enough to him that all I could do was stop and stare.Jane came up behind me, which meant she couldnt see my face. Look, she said. Its Babar. Would you like one to go with your Celeste doll? She reached over and picked one out of the bin.I screamed and slapped it out of her hand and ran out of the toy store. Jane caught up with me and held me while I sobbed, cradling me against her shoulder, stroking my head like my mother did when she read the Babar stories to me on my birthday. I cried myself out and then when I was done, I told her about the Babar my mother had fall apartn me.Jane understood why I didnt want another(prenominal) Babar. It wasnt right to have a innovative one. It wouldnt be right to put something on top of those memories of her. To pretend that another Babar could replace the one she gave me. It wasnt the toy. I didnt want to drag my new dad into it too. She promised. And then she gave me a hug and we went to get ice cream, and I just about made myself arrive at up eating an entire banana split. Which to my eight-year-old mind was a good thing. Truly, an eventful day all around.A week later Jane and I were rest on the observation deck of the CDFS Amerigo Vespucci, staring down at the blue and green world named Huckleberry, where we would live the rest of our lives, or so we thought. John had just left us, to take care of some last-minute business before we took our shuttle trip down to Missouri City, from where we would go to New Goa, our new home. Jane and I were holding hands and pointing out surface features to each other, trying to see if we could see Missouri City from geostationary orbit. We couldnt. But we made good guesses.I have something for you, Jane said to me, after we decided where Missouri City would be, or ought to be, anyway. Something I wanted to give you before we landed on Huckleberry.I hope its a puppy, I said. Id been hinting in that direction for a couple of weeks.Jane laughed. No puppies she said. At least not until were actually settled in. Okay?Oh, all right, I said, disappointed. No, its this, Jane said. She reached into her pocket to pull out a silver scope with something that was a pale green at the end.I took the chain and looked at the pendant. Its an elephant, I said.It is, Jane said. She knelt down so that she and I were face-to-face. I bought it on Phoenix just before we left. I saw it in a shop and it made me think of you.Because of Babar, I said.Yes, Jane said. But for other reason outs, too. Most of the people who live on Huckleberry are from a country on Earth called India, and many of them are Hindu, which is a religion. They have a god called Ganesh, who has the head of an elephant. Ganesh is their god of intelligence, and I think youre pretty smart. Hes also the god of beginnings, which makes sense, too.Because were starting our lives here, I said.Right, Jane said. She took the pendant and necklace from me and put the silver chain around my neck, fastening it in the back. Theres also the saying that an elephant never forgets. Have you heard it? I nodded. John and I are proud to be your parents, Zoe. Were euphoric youre part of our life now, and will help us make our life to come. But I know neither of us would want you ever to forget your mother and father. She drew back and then touched the pendant, gently. This is to remind you how much we love you, Jane said. But I hope it will also remind you how much your mother and father loved you, too. Youre loved by two sets of parents, Zoe. Dont forget about the first because youre with us now.I wont, I said. I promise. The last reason I wanted to give you this was to continue the tradition, Jane said. Your mother and your father each gave you an elephant. I wanted to give you one, too. I hope you like it.I love it, I said, and then launched myself into Jane. She caught me and hugged me. We hugged for a while, and I cried a little bit too. Because I was eight years old, and I could do that.I eventually unhugged myself from Jane and looked at the pendant again. What is this made of? I asked. Its jade, Jane said.Does it mean anything? I asked.Well, Jane said, I suppose it means I think jade is pretty.Did Dad get me an elephant, too? I asked. Eight-year-olds can switch into acquisition mode pretty quickly.I dont know, Jane said. I havent talked to him about it, because you asked me not to. I dont think he knows about the elephants.Maybe hell figure it out, I said.Maybe he will, Jane said. She stood and took my hand again, and we looked out at Huckleberry once more.About a week and a half later, after we were all moved in to Huckleberry, Dad came through the door with something small and squirmy in his hands. No, it wasnt an elephant. Use your heads, people. It was a puppy.I squealed with glee which I was allowed to do, eight at the time, remember and John handed the puppy to me. It immediately tried to lick my face off.Aftab Chengelpet just weaned a litter from their mother, so I thought we might give one of the puppies a home, Dad said. You know, if you want. Although I dont recall you having any enthusiasm for such a creature. We could always give it back.Dont you dare, I said, between puppy licks. any right, Dad said. Just remember hes your responsibility. Youll have to feed him and exercise him and take care of him.I will, I said. And neuter him and pay for his college, Dad said. What? I said.John, Mom said, from her chair, where she had been reading.N ever mind those last two, Dad said. But you will have to give him a name.I held the puppy at arms length to get a good look at him he continued to try to lick my face from a distance and wobbled in my grip as his tails momentum moved him around. What are some good dog names? I asked.Spot. Rex. Fido. Champ, Dad said. Those are the cliche names, anyway. Usually people try to go for something more memorable. When I was a kid I had a dog my dad called Shiva, Destroyer of Shoes. But I dont think that would be appropriate in a partnership of former Indians. Maybe something else. He pointed to my elephant pendant. I notice you seem to be into elephants these days. You have a Celeste. Why not call him Babar? From behind Dad I could see Jane look up from her reading to look at me, remembering what happened at the toy store, waiting to see how I would react.I burst out laughing. So thats a yes, Dad said, after a minute.I like it, I said. I hugged my new puppy, and then held him out again.Hello , Babar, I said.Babar gave a happy little bark and then peed all over my shirt. And thats the story of the jade elephant.

PhD Dissertation Chapter 1

The Fundamental ComponentsChapter One, one of any research thesis or dissertation, should lay down the basis and the objectives any research worker would want to achieve in much(prenominal) undertaking. This chapter consists of the orbit and Theoretical Framework of the Study, Statement of the paradox and the Hypotheses, moment of the Study, the Definition of Terms and Delimitation. The statements made in these subsections should be clearly utter. In the first subsection, the background bequeath form ally introduce the topic and prove the rationale of choosing the problem as well as its notional framework.Another one is that the Statement of the Problem and the Hypotheses should be couched in clear and measurable terms. This distinguish describes the purports why the research worker is conducting the study and enumerates the hypotheses to be tested.Third, the Signifi faecal matterce of the Study will cite the benefits that could be derived as a result.Next, the definition of terms should give the conceptual as well as the operational meanings of the terms in relation to the present study. Finally, the Delimitation part will set the limits and scope of the Study. The AnalysisThe subject of the present analysis is the Chapter of a Dissertation Proposal. The Background of the StudyAs stated previously in the explanation of the Background of the Study, the Chapter 1 of the present research lacks a Research cognomen to serve as a basis of the Chapter 1 component of the dissertation. Having no title, the researcher or the reader of the present work will have a hard time guessing what the Chapter was all about. Thus, he will only have to guess the appropriate title of this research which is missing. The research describes the different refined manakins used by other developed countries. Since this is the case, these models to my mind bear no relevance to what the research is all about neither to be used as a link to the research title.Though I moldiness ad mit that the researcher stated his intention or reason for conducting these research is to provide theoretical background to the claim that the TPEM is strongly based on management theory this thus not negate the detail that in using to explain his intention through TQM and instruction execution-based models, Resource-based View (RBV) and the stakeholder theory (ST) he employed a research paradigm which was not properly explained either in in-text or via graphical representation. How can the researchers put up a prior kindred between enablers and surgical operation indicators is important before testing their causal linkages? It should be properly explained. The Problem Statement and Research ObjectivesThe Statement of the Problem section provides a description of the purpose of the study and enumerates the Hypotheses to be tested. The researcher in this part stated the the enabler consist of leadership, administrational culture and values, strategies and objectives, trump pra ctices, innovation, and change management and the results set comprises of productivity, employee satisfaction, customer relationship and stakeholder focus and the performance results. To my mind these are the variables that will be used to attain the researchers desired end.The Statement of the Problem here is couched in general terms which is very difficult to determine what statistical tool to be used or is it measurable using statistics. To wit how similar is TPEM to other previous performance models such as MBNQA, EQA and Kanjis. What similarities or differences that co-exist between TQM based models such as MBNQA, EQA or Kanjis and other performance-based models such as private-enterprise(a) fitness model, Blue-chip characteristics, and World class manufacturing model since TPEM is claimed to be beyond quality management perspectives, does the model have strong foundation in management theories. What theories could explain its performance factors or enablers and what are the theoretical roots of models performance factors and do the belongingss identified as enablers (called capabilities, and stakeholder focus in this thesis) affect participation performance. This statement should be reduced into simple terms that could be measured, even in practical terms, by a given statistical tools otherwise, it will be very hard to come up with a concrete answer for these statements. In like manner, some of the objectives or the specific questions that need to be answered are couched in general terms or even misplaced, to wit ttheoretically get through the TPEM within management theories to clarify each enablers (organizational capability and stakeholder focus) as determined by TQM and other related performance-based models to clarify the company performance dimension of the result portion of total performance model to establish a suitable bill items for each dimension of capability, stakeholder focus and company performance to validate the dimensions of the mo del to test the relationship between each dimension of the capability, stakeholder focus against company performance to test the structural linkage between organizational capability, stakeholder focus, and company performance with the stakeholder focus as a mediating variable and to test the goodness of fit of the model. How can we measure through clarification the company performance dimension of the result portion of total performance model? How can we establish in a statistical terms a suitable measuring items for each dimension of capability, stakeholder focus and company performance? How can we validate the models dimension? How can we measure the structural linkage between organizational capability, stakeholder focus, and company performance with the stakeholder focus as a mediating variable? To me this is quite broad and diffused. In the question to test the relationship between each dimension of the capability, stakeholder focus against company performance this should be stat ed in this manner Is there a relationship between..stakeholders focus and company performance? Lastly, never state in the object the kind of statistical tool to be used as in this case to test the goodness of fit of the model. spend the word association or relationship in forming the specific objectives. In general, the objective part of necessity to be re-written in order to respond to the Problem Statement. Otherwise, the aims of the research will not be attained.Significance of the StudyIn this section, the researcher should focus on the studys significance to its purported end user. Never explain literature or describe the models. Stay on the unique significance of the present study to the community or organization where the researcher belongs.Definition of TermsThe definition of term lacks the conceptual and operational definition of terms of selected words unique to the study. The researcher only admits a purported definition without even citing the correct reference of each term of words. Also, the researcher failed to include the operational definition of this words as used in the thesis or dissertation.ReferenceShearer, C (1994). interoperable Continuous Improvement for Professional Services, ASQC Quality Press, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, p. 163-165.

The Desire of Love in “A Mercy”

Love is the irresistible desire to be desired irresistibly. Robert hoarfrost The conception of revel throughout the young changes drastically from innocent to a sense of desertion. The way Florence shows her spot for the blacksmith illustrates to the reader her in love with the emotion. Love was a pretty difficult topic to write on because of the circumstance that the novel was narrated by so many different characters from beginning to end. The irony on the basis of love is was basically the fact that the blacksmith doesnt feel the same way for Florence as she feels for him.Later on in the novel I noniced and finally understood the title of the novel A Mercy. It was just because of the Love of a human. Illustrated in the concluding paragraphs Morrison states It was not a miracle. Bestowed by God. It was a mercy. Offered by a human. Love is oft defined as an intense feeling of deep affection, and the way Florence expressed her love for the blacksmith emphasized her young p erson not only in age save also with the emotion itself. Florence showed consistent signs of jealously and severity because she was able to handle such affection. She was regularly bitter with the thought of her m different giving her away when she was younger, not penetrative the reason for her m opposites rational decision. One way Florence showed her jealously was when the blacksmith adopted a young boy and began showing him more attention than he gave Florence. Florence, overtake by jealously and anger got into a physical altercation with the young child and in the end ended up jailbreak the childs arm. Florence says in chapter 9 that she didnt try to hurt the young lad, she just simply wanted him to stop crying, alone she also goes on to say how she heard his shoulder crack but continued anyway (164).This is what leads me to think that it was done out of her jealously and rage and not by other less harmful means. The incident not only caused a huge dispute between her and the blacksmith but it also projected to the reader that Florence was unable to accept the fact that the blacksmith could show affection for someone else, other than her. You see the boy down and believe bad rough me without question? (165) Florence goes into detail speaking about how the blacksmith came into the room and his immediate assumption was that Florence had did something to harm the boy.The excerpt that I think hurt Florence the most (165) was when he said to her You are nothing but speculativeerness. No constraint. No mind. Basically telling Florence she is as wild as an outdoor animal and cant control herself or her emotions. Like a tot Florence craves independence and attention but yet from the activities that Florence encountered in her past, she also fears desertion. As I stated before, Florence and the blacksmith got into a physical altercation and the blacksmith ended up striking Florence and he abandoned her by telling her to admit the presence of him and his adopted son.Not only did the blacksmith aim to hurt Florence physically but he also act to hurt her verbally because after her told her to leave his presence her called her a (166) slave by choice in both boy and mind. In the novel Morrison compares this sense of abandonment to that of a familiar feeling Florence felt up when she was given up at birth. Knowing that that event scared Florence negatively for life, it really gives the reader the superpower to feel the wrath of the emotional roller coaster Florence is feeling at this point in the novel knowing she just lost a man she cared so deeply about. The love Florence has/had for the blacksmith soon des and spin simply to hatred because she still cant realize the mistake she made in painfulness Malik. Yes in my opinion the blacksmith was wrong for striking her but she was somewhat lucky that that was all he did. (184) Later, on in chapter 11 Florence elaborates more on her closing quotes in chapter 9 which was the claws scratc h and scratch until the beetle is in my hand (167).But in chapter 11 Florence gets into another tussle with the blacksmith (184) in which she strikes him with a hammer and cuts him gravely with tongs before she runs away. Later on in this chapter and the preceding chapter (195) is where readers learn why the novel is entitle A Mercy. The novel is named for Jacobs agreement to save Florence from a life that would have been worse than the one she experience on the Vaarks farm. It was Not a miracle bestowed bu God. It was a mercy. Abigail Should Be Regarded as a Victims of the Puritan Society Essay

Whether in novels, movies or plays, the baddies usually leave somewhat negative impressions on the audience so that the villains basically become the most unpopular roles in the works. Because the audiences comfortably produce subjective consciousness following the villains performances in the stories, they be used to ignoring the factor that the villains likewise could be the dupes at the aforementioned(prenominal) time. In the play The Crucible written by Arthur Miller, Abigail Williams is a controversial villain because she is both a typical instigator of the accusations and a victim of the Puritan society at the kindred time. premierly, Abigails heartrending demeanor experiences and the Puritan society environment which she lives in build her complex character. Secondly, in the affair between her and Proctor, Abigail not only loses love that also she is hated by her lover. First of all, the unpleasant past and the Puritan environment build Abigails complex character. To begin with, she is ruthless because it female genitalia be shown from her attitude towards the other girlsof Salem. In order to prevent other girls from speaking out what they boast done against the puritanical rules in the fo backup, she threatens these girls, I saw Indians smash my dear p arents heads on the pillow bordering to mine, and I have seen some reddish work done at night, and I can shamble you wish had never seen the sun go down (Miller 20) A normal girl should never scan about that. It is so early for Abigail to experience such a cruel scene as a young child. Her parents death greatly affects her, as a result of which this event is likely to leave a wound on her heart. She also gradually becomes ruthless because of that. In addition, the children of Puritan society were never valued by their parents and their physical and psychological health would not be developed very well. Like her contemporaries, Abigail lacks carefulness from her uncle in her childhood. She i s adopted by her uncle Parris Williams who a priest in Salem. At the beginning of the play, the narrator give tongue toHe was a widower with no interest in children, or talent with them. like the rest of Salem, never conceived that the children were anything (Miller 4). Parris never cares about Abigails growing up and only cares about his wealth and temperament in Salem. Without the correct guidance, Abigail has to face and solve every problem she may meet in her life by herself. Even though she uses some wrongful means to achieve her purpose, she never cares about whether they are correct or not, because nobody enlightens her how to face thesedifficult situations. For example, when Parris asks her what they really have done in the forest, because she fears cosmos punished, she instigates the other girls to cover up the truth, even accusing those innocent battalion when they are interrogated who are the devils servants. Moreover, the squared-toe rules restricts the entertainm ents of the childrens. This also evokes these girls especially Abigail so that they want to seek some exciting activities somewhere. Therefore, the identity of existence an strip and her miserable childhood experiences cause the ruthless and dishonest character of Abigail, and make her become a victim of the Puritan society. Furthermore, Abigail is a victim in the love affair because she loses her reputation and gets nothing in the end. Firstly, Abigail loses her ingenuousness in villagers eyes of Salem. When her uncle Parris is talking about her name, Parris mentions Proctors wife Elizabeth and he state she comes so rarely to the church this year for she will not sit so close to something soiled. that you are now seven months out of their house, and in all this time no other family has ever called for your dish up (Miller 12). This shows that Abigail has lost her reputation in Salem. Her affair with John Proctor is already known by many another(prenominal) people and this event causes nobody would like to employ her. As an unmarried girl, innocence is very important, inappropriate Proctor who has married Elizabeth. In her future life, no one would like to marry such a soiled girl. At the end of the play, Abigails ending is tragic The legend has it that Abigail turned up posterior as a prostitute in Boston (Miller ECHOES DOWN THE COORIDOR). She has paid her reputation for love but she still loses Proctors love. When Danforth asks where he and Abigails affair happened, Proctor tells the truth In the fitting place where my beasts are bedded. On the last night of my joy, some eight months past. I beg you, sir, I beg yousee what she is. My wife, my dear good wife, took this girl soon after, sir, and put her out on the highroad. And being what she is, a lump of vanity (Miller 110). John Proctor would rather sacrifice his reputation than harming those innocent people including his wife. He makes his mind up to save Elizabeth and expose the Abigails true face at the same time. This reveals Proctors emotions toward Abigail at this time. There is not any love is remained in his heart, only evoke and hatred. Abigail is a loser in love she loses Proctor. She is too young and impulsive so that she never considers the consequences when she go inlove with Proctor who cannot bring her anything she wants. Thus, she gets nothing. All in all, although Abigail is a villain in this play, she is also a victim of Puritan society.

This is primary because of the need of assisting students in developing their physical stamina as a part of their growth towards maturity. Studies even prove that it is not only the physical strength that is being developed done this procedure. Moreover, it could be noted that psychologists have install out that the ability of a child to think is actually empowered when their physical bodies are exercised well as part of stress relief from the mind towards the body that eases their minds to think collapse.Too much words and no exercise can actually make the brain less productive. This is the reaso n why educational institutions are investing well for the development of athletic departments that are anticipate to help their students become better academic performers. Also , with having an athletic department as part of their work, it has been made aware that this has increased competency in handling the educational needs of their students. This is the reason why I think that the establishment of an athletic department would best support the needs and the goals of this nurturedays in both the mental and the physical abilities of the students that the school is preparing themselves to cater to. Further discussion of the matter and how it particularly applies to the system of education that the institution prefers to offer shall be presented within the paragraphs that follow.Significance of the ProposalAs noted earlier, physical development is a vital part of ones growth. In establishing an athletic department within a school, it is aimed that the students birth the best se rve well that they ought to have from all the programs offered from the educational agreement. With the improvement on the process by which the students are able to relax, and deal their lessons well, the school can then gather a good reputation from their parents and staff, which would likely be passed on through word of mouth. The institution would likely have a higher number of parents trusting them for the education of their children. It is very important that the physical health of the students is given high level of attention as well as their academic achievements are given well training through the process. Through the major practise of the program that the department of athletics would imply within the annual academic schedule of the institution, it is expected that the intervention of the matter would be balanced by giving more of a benefit to the development of the students of whom the organization caters to.Proposal Page 2How the department is to be EstablishedLike an y other(a) departments in educational intuitions, an athletic department needs to have a lead officer that would be in charge of setting annual schedules for the group as well as for the entire academic department. diversion from the head officers, it is important to have assistants, who are likely to assist in the process of pursuing athletic lessons, as well as athletic events that are usually handled annually as recreational bunk for the students of the school every now and then. The rate are then decided upon by the administration depending on the hours that they spend within the premises of the school and participate on the operations of the institution.Proposal Page 3Who ar e to Work within the DepartmentUndoubtedly, an athletic department is expected to be divided into different measures of separation that would likely focus on the different aims of the department. These different sections are actually expected to handle the separation of the lecture and lesson sections of the department with that of the special events section that are employ to access the athletic aims of the department.Particularly, it is understandable that the matter requires professionals who are masters of physical education instruction for the highest positions and other positions such as assistants of the program could actually be taken by other fresh graduates from college who are screened and considered competent enough to handle the responsibilities that are intended for the said job positions.Personnel Roles and ResponsibilitiesPOSITION ponder DescriptionImpact of the position within the Department and the Institutions SuccessTeacher/instructorThese personnel are expected to handle lecture and student regular activities offered through the institutions curriculum. This increases the competency of the organization in handling physical health instructional responsibilities of the administration towards the community it serves. motorbusHandles athletic events and motivation to the chosen athletes of the institution for competition purposesThis increases the chances of the institution in making a fig in the field of scholastic athletics in the community.Scholarship AssessorExamines whether who among the students are worthy to receive scholarship grants from the administration.Makes the institution more of a pillar of education that gives chances to worthy students through honing the talents and skills that they posses with regards sporting events and competitions.Administrational headlandHandles the major scheduling issues of the department and gives careful arrangement for the completion of the departments responsibilitiesMakes the department much org anized and the institution better informed of the activities of the department.Assistantship PositionsSupports the other officials of the departmentMakes the task much easier to completeProposal Page 4ConclusionFrom the proposal presented, it is highly suggested that the department be carefully planned as to who shall be appointed for its important positions as it would particularly detect the competency of the entire group. Thus through this process, the surety of the departments success is likely to be expected. Undeniably though, the cooperation of the entire institutions body of administration is highly needed for the success of the said department. Consequently, with support from everyone in the organization, an Athletic Department could not only scram fine assistance and physical training for the students but also bring the institution a fine reputation of high excellence within the society that they are circumstances as a primary school.Works CitedRichard J Dippel.
